Emergency Acoustic BOP Control System – Overview

This equipment forms part of Sonardyne’s Emergency Acoustic BOP Control System, a high-security backup solution designed to remotely operate a subsea Blow-Out Preventer (BOP) in the event of total loss of primary control. The system enables reliable acoustic shut-in and emergency disconnect operations in deepwater offshore drilling environments and is fully API-compliant.

Sonardyne Surface BOP Control Unit

Surface-mounted BOP control unit forming the topside command element of the Emergency Acoustic BOP Control System. Generates and transmits secure acoustic commands to the subsea BOP system via hull-mounted or over-the-side transducers. Designed for rapid, reliable emergency well-control operations on offshore drilling rigs.

Sonardyne Subsea BOP SEM (Subsea Electronics Module)

Deep-rated Subsea Electronics Module (SEM) providing the direct interface between the acoustic control system and the BOP hydraulic functions. The SEM controls pilot valve solenoids and monitors BOP status signals, acting as the central subsea control hub within the Emergency Acoustic BOP Control System.

Sonardyne Subsea BOP DART (Deep Acoustic Remote Transceiver)

Subsea Deep Acoustic Remote Transceivers (DARTs) used to receive, decode, and validate secure acoustic commands from the surface. Installed on swing-out arms to ensure clear acoustic line-of-sight, DARTs provide redundant and highly reliable communication paths between the surface control unit and the subsea SEM.

Sonardyne Portable BOP Control Unit

Self-contained portable acoustic BOP control unit enabling emergency operation of a subsea BOP from remote locations such as a standby vessel, lifeboat, or helicopter.
